wal-mart-scorecardIn an effort to create more sustainable solutions for a healthier, safer environment and future, Wal-Mart has developed the Wal-Mart Packaging Scorecard to encourage suppliers to take a more active approach in greener packaging initiatives. As sustainable packaging becomes a growing concern for businesses and consumers alike, the packaging scorecard works as a helpful tool for suppliers to measure a package’s environmentally-friendly attributes.

What Is the Wal-Mart Packaging Scorecard?

The scorecard rates packaging solutions on a variety of elements, including materials, transportation, renewable energy, innovation, product-to-package ratio and recycled content, among other qualities. By scoring each category individually, suppliers can evaluate specific strengths and weaknesses of their packaging strategies and improve their design accordingly. For example, scoring low in cube utilization means you’ll have to focus more efforts on packaging designs and solutions that use space more effectively. Suppliers also receive a score relative to other suppliers, which allows them to compare their package with the competition.

Scoring the H-Loc Trapped Blister

With its innovative design, recyclability and minimal use of material, the H-Loc Trapped Blister is a winning packaging solution. The trapped blister pack displays much strength on the packaging scorecard regarding (but not limited to):

  • Recycled Content. The trapped blister uses 100% recycled materials – including RPET, which is made from recycled water bottles, and corrugated paperboard, one of the most recycled materials on the planet.
  • By using a minimal amount of RPET to contain the product and two pieces of corrugated cardboard to surround and trap the plastic, the trapped blister achieves an innovative design that allows for more graphic space, effective tamper evidence, and safer, easier opening than the traditional clamshell package.
  • Cube Utilization. The trapped blister’s reduced use of plastic and compact design utilizes space effectively, providing ample room during shipping and reducing the cost of fuel and transportation.

The H-Loc Trapped Blister is a sustainable packaging solution that boasts superior scores on the Wal-Mart Sustainable Packaging Scorecard, making it a smart packaging choice across any marketing channel.
