Let’s be honest, we have all faced “wrap rage” trying to open those pesky mailers and that hard-to-open packaging of our favorite snack. Amazon recognized this problem and annoyance, and implemented a new process that is largely used by businesses today. Frustration-free packaging (FFP) eliminates the irritation of hard to open packages and leaves consumers satisfied with the company they are ordering from.

We work with a variety of industries to meet their packaging needs and goals. Our experienced team is ready to handle your job, large or small. Read our blog post below to learn more about why you should invest in frustration-free packaging and how it would help your business
What is Frustration-Free Packaging?
Frustration-free packaging is a concept that was created by Amazon in 2008. FFP has three main goals: reduce waste, increase sustainability, and create easy to open packaging.
- Reduce Waste – FFP reduces the amount of separate components needed in packaging. It eliminates the use of styrofoam, bubble wrap and air cushions, packing peanuts, etc. The product comes shipped in its original packaging, eliminating the need for an extra shipping container (a box in a box). All of these factors contribute to reducing the waste that comes from product shipping.
- Be Sustainable – With the reduction of waste, the packages that are shipped are recyclable, reusable, or compostable. Improving this aspect of product packaging, leaves consumers with less stress about their impact on the environment. This also reflects well on your company’s environmental impact.
- Open With Ease – Following the societal norm that package opening should not require tools or an extra set of hands, FFP maintains product safety during shipment while also allowing the customer to open the package with no trouble. Avoiding extra materials like air cushions and packing peanuts, and reducing hard to open materials like plastic heat-sealed clamshell packaging, allow customers to open their packages quickly and easily.
Why Invest In FFP?
FFP saves you time and money in your product shipping. Reducing the need for larger packaging, more of your products can be shipped out and delivered at once. Packaging your products is also a quicker process, as additional packing materials have been eliminated from the process. This is easier on the supply chain as the packages are simple, sturdy, and easy to transport.
Implementing FFP also means your shipping costs are lower, because there is less packaging to ship. You also save money not needing to order extra boxes or packaging materials for shipping. Not to mention, if your customer is satisfied with the shipping and packaging opening experience, they are more likely to keep buying from your company. 67% of consumers said they are influenced by the material a product is packaged in when deciding what to buy.
How To Implement Frustration-Free Packaging
Amazon offers certification in FFP while still allowing you to ship the product in its original packaging. Some requirements include being able to open packaging in under 120 seconds, being recyclable, and prohibiting the use of additional packaging materials (blister packs, shredded paper, etc.).
