Budweiser’s Innovative Packaging at the World Cup

The packaging industry is impressed by Anheuser-Busch’s innovative design for the FIFA World Cup collectible beer cup. The cup contained a circuit that lit up in response to environmental sound; the louder the crowd was, the more it lit up. The 9 LED lights in each cup, flashed in 2 levels. The first level was the standard speed, and the second level was dependent on the loudness of the crowd, which would make the lights brighter and faster. Eight million of these cups were produced with variations of graphic design representing different countries names and flags.

The crowd was intrigued by the noise-response flashing lights, it encouraged fans to get louder and louder during the game. The cup’s circuit board was made using advanced printed electronic technology, which kept the manufacturing simple and cost efficient. Anheuser-Busch also made sure that the cups were recyclable for disposal.
